Open source evangelist
L'Open source evangelist est avant tout un évangéliste technologique (en: technology evangelist) qui s'active pour l'open source; il s'agit de celui qui milite pour rassembler autour de la culture de logiciel libre plus de personnes, de faire la promotion des systèmes GNU/Linux[1], encourager le travail collaboratif autour des logiciels et des solutions informatiques libres [2]. Ainsi tous les partisans de l'open source et qui s'investissent dans la vulgarisation des logiciels libres et de leur adoption par le grand public sont des évangélistes des logiciels libres (traduction littérale en français). Il peut appartenir à des communautés (comme des hubs, des tiers-lieux, des associations) ou évoluer seul dans son secteur d'activité.
On peut citer comme open source evangelist, des personnes comme Linus Torvalds[3], Brian Behlendorf[4], Richard Stallman[5], Tim O'Reilly[6], Mitch Kapor, Eric Raymond[7], Alan Cox, Jimmy Wales[8] et beaucoup d'autres.
