Hiding Behind
Hiding Behind (En se cachant derrière) est un poème en anglais écrit le par Romain Gandillet.
Texte de trente lignes, au style volontairement direct et néanmoins fluide, il dénonce, sur un ton décalé et désolé, le fait que certaines personnes se préoccupent de ce que les autres vont penser, engendrant ainsi un masque qui leur contraindrait à se conformer aux usages de la société. Presque tout le poème tourne autour de l'utilisation du masque au sens figuré, bien qu'on trouve également une référence au masque en tissu et à la crise de la Covid-19 dans son ensemble ce faisant (« Awfully taken in that cage of dreaded fabric »).

Things aren’t always what they seem.
It is that thing that suffocates us,
It is that thing that prevents us,
From being ourselves
From breathing
Properly
Awfully taken in that cage of dreaded fabric,
Terribly trapped in that cage that people
Make for us,
And we ask ourselves
Why are we trying to live up to
whatever they may think,
Why are we trying to deny
And abandon
Whatever makes us unique
And special
Since when have we been doing that
And why the hell are we doing that
Are we just secretly wanting
To live the lives that others have
